The Giudecca district ( the so colled “a-iureca” from us ) , is the most ancient district of Ortigia. this district was also called the “ ghetto ebraico “ which is part of the city of Syracusae . in the 400s the governor of Syracusae Giovanni Cardenas gave the cahnce to the jewish comunity to have the same laws of people who lived in the giudecca district.

The jewish , sooner well lived in the new district. they built new places monuments caming from their tradition such as the so called “sinagoghe” and the miqweh, some of them became important people of politc and art life in the city, but this period finisched in1942 when King Ferdinand ii, decided to let all the jewish to go from Sicily, because they where with the saracens against cattolic people. today this old part of the city is a tourist attraction, with monuments of 700 and 800. today the Giudecca is a street with lovely attactions where you can lovely lost yourself.
